Inconvenient History – The Barbary Slave Trade

Once upon a time, slavers ravaged the coastal towns of the European continent. Eventually, the response to that would include clear proof that the United States is not founded on a religion. Soon thereafter, European imperialism would become the driving force for the abolition of slavery around the world. Continue reading to learn more. The Barbary Slave Trade is a relatively small part of the Arab Slave Trade, which itself is only one part of the Islamic Slave Trade (which besides Arab slavers, includes Turks enslaving Europeans and Africans, Muslim invaders of India and Sub-Saharan Africa, Malay enslavers of local minorities, and other Islamic slavers). For example, the Arab Slave Trade may have enslaved up to 18 million people over its span (not including those born enslaved), while the Barbary Slave Trade enslaved some number over 1 million. Bear in mind that this number is three times the number of enslaved people (roughly 388 thousand) sent to the area of the United Sta...

The Tide Is Turning on Same-Sex Marriage

Just this week, both New Mexico and Utah legalized same-sex marriage (via the courts).  I'm glad that the courts are starting to get in on the action.  It's really just a matter of time.  Our period today is like the late 1950s for blacks.  From 1954 to 1968, blacks basically became equal citizens in all states.  For example, there was Brown VS the Board of Education - school desegregation (1954), the Civil Rights Act (1964), the Voting Rights Act (1965), and the Fair Housing Act (1968).  In a period of 15 years, things dramatically changed.  We're in that period for same-sex marriage now. There are a few differences, though.  For one, a lot of people forget that blacks and other minorities did have full rights for quite a while (in some cases perhaps even since America's founding) in many northern states.  Here, same-sex marriage was not legal in any state until quite recently.  It was only ten years ago, in 2003, when Massachus...

Western liberals have to pull their heads out of their asses.

This blogpost was written after reading this article: "Sentenced to death for a sip of water " http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/sentenced_to_death_for_sip_of_water_7zwT2vBrUGqhDzasfQxkKK I learned about that from Fakher Haddoui. https://plus.google.com/u/0/102978975077667101095/posts/M57vbW8xEzz Below are my thoughts: In school, I was basically taught that all cultures are equal (except for Western cultures which are the only selfish ones in the world). What I've come to realize is that while there have been evil and great people scattered around the world for ages, not all cultures are equal, and on top of that - cue the racism claims - Western culture in general is (and has been at least since the year 1700) much closer to the top of the rankings than the bottom.  (For the record, the major cultures - albeit minorities in their own countries -  that I respect the most are various "Eastern" philosophies which don't dispute sci...
