EUROPE IS NOT FREE.

This may come as a shock to those who think that Europe is a bastion of liberal thought.  It is merely a bastion of leftist thought, and as I have realized, leftists can be just as much against freedom as any rightists.  This is yet another example of why I would be forced into voting for those I don't even strongly support, just because the opposition is so authoritarian and despotic while attempting to appear like they are on the side of good.

The French presidential election is in less than two months.  I assume the powers that be think that the people cannot detect the trampling of democracy when they learn that "The European Parliament voted Thursday to lift French far-right leader Marine Le Pen’s immunity from prosecution for tweeting gruesome images of violence, a crime that carries up to three years in prison under French law. The legislature voted by a broad majority in Brussels to clear the way for the possible prosecution of Le Pen over tweets she made in December 2015 showing executions, including the killing of American reporter James Foley by Islamic State extremists."

Why did she post photos of graphic ISIS murders?  Was she trying to get French people to join ISIS?  Of course not.  The European Parliament never prosecutes those who entice people to join ISIS.  They only prosecute those who speak out against ISIS...particularly if they are up for election.  "Le Pen, a leading candidate in this year’s French presidential election, posted her tweets in response to a journalist who drew an analogy between her anti-immigration National Front party and IS extremists. She was trying to show the difference between the two groups but the effort backfired, drawing widespread condemnation."

So, in short, a "journalist" (how easily we toss that term about these days!) said that the National Front is "as bad as Islamic State extremists" and she posted that image to show what ISIS actually is like.  The powers that be didn't like that, and they decided to attempt to imprison her for sharing pictures before an election in which she is a front runner.

Even if you hate Le Pen, think about what laws such as these can do to a society.  Similarly to "Ag-gag laws" in some US states (which criminalize the taking of photos of the gruesome situations and tortures that livestock animals are subjected to before they get on your dinner plate), showing the truth has become ILLEGAL.  If you support the telling of the truth or the showing of the truth to be illegal, then do not call yourself a supporter of liberty, because you aren't.

If the French people cannot see how hideous this totalitarian tactic is and defend Le Pen (no matter their personal views concerning her policies), then they deserve everything that they will get by letting this continue, namely an overwhelming authoritarian regime that will find any way at their disposal to crush both dissent of the people and their representatives.  I saw similar tactics (though not legislative, and not this bad) used when Trump was running against Clinton, and that is one of the reasons why, although I had many problems with Trump, I voted for him.  Sometimes true democracy (like a person having a fair shot at winning, and not being destroyed by entirely transparent tactics of the establishment) is more important than any specific policy stands.  Both Trump and Le Pen have issues, but both are also some of the only people in power to have the guts to talk openly about certain problems.  There is no doubt now that, if I were French, I would vote for Marine Le Pen.  And even if you wouldn't, we cannot allow this violation of justice to stand.  Support her freedom, at the very least!

In Defense of...Cecil Rhodes?!

You all know Cecil Rhodes, right?  He was a British Imperialist (living from 1853-1902) who founded the De Beers diamond mining and trading company.  Just this morning, I came upon a post comparing him to Adolf Hitler, and claiming that Cecil Rhodes killed at least 60 million Africans.  It has been shared 99 times.  Here is the post: https://plus.google.com/+TonyJefferson/posts/CZ6HW3AxDo6 Unlike many, I decided to do some research on it.  That is my nature.  I don't accept things without evidence given, and even when no evidence is provided, I search for evidence.  If after looking, no evidence is forthcoming, then I discount the claim unless compelling evidence does surface.  After my research on this topic (taking up about an hour of my day and 28 open tabs on my browser...but still an enjoyable time because this is what I like to do), I found that my initial skepticism was well justified and that this comparison is incorrect.  Adolph Hitler and Cecil Rhodes cannot be compare

Inconvenient History – The Barbary Slave Trade

Once upon a time, slavers ravaged the coastal towns of the European continent. Eventually, the response to that would include clear proof that the United States is not founded on a religion. Soon thereafter, European imperialism would become the driving force for the abolition of slavery around the world. Continue reading to learn more. The Barbary Slave Trade is a relatively small part of the Arab Slave Trade, which itself is only one part of the Islamic Slave Trade (which besides Arab slavers, includes Turks enslaving Europeans and Africans, Muslim invaders of India and Sub-Saharan Africa, Malay enslavers of local minorities, and other Islamic slavers). For example, the Arab Slave Trade may have enslaved up to 18 million people over its span (not including those born enslaved), while the Barbary Slave Trade enslaved some number over 1 million. Bear in mind that this number is three times the number of enslaved people (roughly 388 thousand) sent to the area of the United Sta

The Sixth Great Mass Extinction and Human Survival

Recently, there have been numerous articles about a study showing that we are in the midst of the Earth's sixth great mass extinction.  Below are some quotes, and then I will give my thoughts. "Miami (AFP) - The world is embarking on its sixth mass extinction with animals disappearing about 100 times faster than they used to, scientists warned Friday, and humans could be among the first victims." "Not since the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago has the planet been losing species at this rapid a rate, said a study led by experts at Stanford University, Princeton University and the University of California, Berkeley." "The study "shows without any significant doubt that we are now entering the sixth great mass extinction event," said co-author Paul Ehrlich, a Stanford University professor of biology." http://news.yahoo.com/sixth-mass-extinction-us-study-210749359.html This is sad, although it's not news.  I
